Natural Sources of Zinc



 Zinc is a vital mineral that we need for things as vital as having healthy senses of smell,  sight and taste. Life can get quiet challenging when we don´t see, hear or taste things  properly. But zinc is important for many other things too like having healthy skin and hair  (who doesn´t want to look good?)


It´s also essential for our proper hormone production and even regulates our vital sex drive!

Thing is we normally don´t get enough zinc in our diets, so I´ve prepared a list of plant based foods that contain high levels of zinc:

  • pumpkin or squash seeds
  • cacao or dark chocolate
  • garlic
  • watermelon seeds
  • sesame seeds
  • chia seeds
  • wheat germ
  • garbanzo beans
  • fresh and dried fruit (avocados, berries, dates, apricots…)
  • Superfoods like maca, spirulina and bee pollen
  • Nuts (cashews and brasilean nuts)


Zinc is essential to human health in many more ways. For its immune boosting properties, our muscle development, for fertility and low libido, to improve our physical performance and energy levels, because it improves our cardiovascular health, lowers cholesterol and inflammation, it works as a detox from heavy metals, to treat diarrhea, for bad memory, infertility, low wound healing, preventing cancer, and the list keeps going.

Zinc is essential for many reasons because it´s a powerful antioxidant and it´s vital for many biological functions!

For men, because high testosterone correlates with high levels of zinc. And also because we ejaculate it.

For women, to keep their reproductive system healthy. And it´s especially important when breastfeeding because you give it to your baby.


If you crave saltier and sweeter food, it probably has to do with low zinc levels that alter your taste buds.
